1. What is Graffiti?

The history of early graffiti dates all the way back to ancient Roman times with early signs of figure drawings found in tombs. In more recent times Graffiti has been used to express ‘personal calling cards’ and ‘tags’ by people all over the world. The art we know today as graffiti comes predominately out of the hip hop culture. Under the banner of graffiti there are several different styles of graffiti art.

Many people see the art form as simple vandalism. This is down to the shear fact that the art is misused on public property. This has led to negative connotation around the art.

2. Isn’t Graffiti just vandalism?

Many people see the art form as vandalism because it is often misused.

True graffiti art is NOT vandalism. We believe graffiti is art when used in the correct way, with permission, control, passion and thought.

3. How much does it cost for materials?

Our Current rate for Graffiti materials for workshops is

Typically £3.30 per participant

This  would normally include

-Spray Cans

-Masks

-Gloves

-Boards/Canvasses

-Paper

-Marker Pens

-Stencils

-Cutting Tools

  1. +Any other materials needed

Commissions, parties  and customer workshop materials cost depends on requirements.

4. Why is the price so high for materials?

Graffiti like most other Art forms need materials to make it happen. A typical workshop/commission will need a fair amount of paint, boards, masks, stencils, card gloves etc to make it happen.

If you have thirty young people attending a session or a large piece to spray the cost will tally up.

SSA are always looking for ways of finding the cheapest but still the best quality materials to bring you.

5. What is the youngest age for participants to attend?

SSA recommend you have participants no younger then 6 years old taking part.  if children are aged between 6 - 10 years old

SSA artists will tend to use a s
special type of pen called ‘Posca Pens’ which are more child friendly. Pleas ask for details!

We do require at least 1 Youth Worker or Teacher per 10 children to assist.
